These tobacco-free pouches contain nicotine for oral use and are becoming increasingly popular on the market. They mainly consist of tasteless cellulose. Various active ingredients and flavourings are then added to this base.
High production requirements
Rising demand has made nicotine pouches attractive to the consumer goods industry. At the same time, manufacturers of such products have to make their production processes more efficient. One issue is the addition of nicotine which was mostly done in powder form in the case of the first products on the market.
However, using liquid nicotine is more cost-effective, but it is also more technically demanding in terms of the production process as it is – in its pure form - a potentially dangerous contact poison. This means that the liquid nicotine must be distributed exactly and homogeneously throughout the carrier substrate in order to avoid the risk of an overdose and its undesirable side effects.

Ploughshare® Mixers are the solution
LÖDIGE Ploughshare® Mixers of batch type offer a high-performance solution for this demanding task as they are designed according to the needs of the application. These machines provide a very high mixing quality and precise dosing of the added liquids. As a result, all batches have identical product parameters that are consistent and reproducible. This ensures that the active ingredient content in every pouch is correct. In particular, the complete mixed product can be properly processed and packaged in this form.
A further advantage is that the machines are easy to clean, simplifying product changeovers between two batches and saving time. The machine design is optimised for cleaning, including all components that come into contact with the product. Depending on the required capacity, machines with a drum volume of 300 to 3000 litres are typically used in the production of nicotine pouches.
